Abstract: Developed a food-focused news and blog website on WordPress with a custom theme built specifically for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
The Challenge
The goal of the Fakta Food project was not just to create a blog about food, but to build a content platform that could attract a large audience organically through search engines. The primary challenge was to ensure that the website's technical foundation was perfectly structured for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to maximize its visibility on Google and other search engines.
The Solution
I developed the Fakta Food website on the WordPress platform, but instead of using an off-the-shelf theme, I built a completely custom theme from the ground up. This allowed me to have full control over the site's architecture and code, ensuring that every aspect was optimized for SEO.
Key SEO-focused Development
- Semantic HTML: The theme was built with clean, semantic HTML5 markup to help search engines better understand the content's structure and meaning.
- Performance Optimization: The theme was designed to be lightweight and fast-loading, a critical factor for both user experience and search rankings.
- Schema Markup: I integrated structured data (schema markup) into the theme to enhance how the site's content appeared in search results (rich snippets).
- Custom Theme Development: This project was a deep dive into WordPress theme development, teaching me how to build a site's technical structure with a specific business goal—in this case, organic growth—as the top priority.
